We love a challenge and when it comes to furnishing and decorating our home it is no different.
There are only a handful of items in our home that we have purchased new.
A couple of couches and a few chairs (because I cannot reupholster anything to save my life, well O.K. maybe if it saved my life!!)
Most of our home décor was purchased second hand or on clearance.
Let’s start with the Living Room.
Couch – Clearance
Arm Chairs – Clearance
Desk – Free
Desk Chair – Second Hand
Wall Sign – Free (we made it out of salvaged pieces we had laying around in the workshop)
I would have to say about 90% of our home décor was either gifted, inherited from our Parents or Grandparents, purchased second hand, re-purposed or we picked up on clearance.
Industrial Cart/Coffee Table - Free
The Ping Pong Table we snagged at the ReStore in Davenport, Iowa and I painted it with some chalk board paint.
The arrows we made out of old barn board and I painted the tips/ends with some Gold Rust-Oleum spray paint.
I found the idea on Pinterest and I am currently working on a Blog post to share all the details so you can make some of your own if you would like :)
Next up is the Dining Room.
We were extremely lucky to stumble upon our Dining Room set.
We paid only $500 for the complete set!
Which included the table, two extensions, 6 chairs (which I have since swapped out with those pictured) and china hutch.
Here is a picture of the original chairs that came with the set.
This Blue Buffett?
Free!!
Read all about that here

Next is our Hearth Room.
I LOVE THIS SPACE!!!!
The fishing poles and fishing supplies belonged to Steve’s Grandfather.
More on that here
http://furniture-ology.blogspot.com/2013/02/gone-fishing.html
The table we found on Craigslist.
Two of the chairs were free and the other two we spent a total of $25.
This Buffet?
Free!!
The bar stools we found on Craigslist for only $15 ea.
They were natural wood and we painted them crème.
One of the first things we did after moving in was paint the pantry door red.
(I forgot the “e” in Spaghetti!!)
And I LOVE our dutch door that we made out of the old laundry room/mud room door!!!
As seen here

Next up is our Master Bedroom.
We made the headboard.
The chest of drawers was free and the dresser was another Craigslist find.

This vanity table we snagged at the Kane County Flea Market a few years ago.
It was headed for the burn pile and we offered them $10 bucks to take it off there hands!
My Favorite flip to date!!!!

The fireplace mantle was free.
We painted it crème and picked up a few bundles of wood from Lowes and bundled them all together with a tie down strap.
LOVE IT!
The red chair I found at the Goodwill in Bettendorf, Iowa many years ago.
We are currently working on renovating our master closet.
Here is a Before.
We removed the carpet and replaced it with this wood flooring that we found in our attic space when we moved in.
FREE!!!
And we made this amazing coffered ceiling mostly out of wood from the closet demolition and a few odds and ends we had on hand.
We did however purchase the crown molding.
But all in all a very inexpensive project!
And best of all the labor was free!
But most of my time is spent in my Office/Craft/Sewing Room.
(which is a work in progress)
See that beautiful filing cabinet in the corner???
Here is a before!

Or in here.
Doing a little Yoga or cycling.
As well as here.
Cardio anyone?
And my favorite spot in the house is the workshop.
I could spend all day in here.
But this is where I SHOULD be spending my time.
I just shut the door.
Out of site out of mind :)
Happy Wednesday :)

ReplyDeleteYour house is amazing. Seriously, I am blown away ever single time you share pics. I'm loving the ping pong chalk board--it balances out the chalkboard wall nicely, Also, that candelabra you have on the dining room table is one of my favorite things ever. Thank you so much for sharing your post on my blog today, too!
