$5 Guest Bathroom Makeover

Yep! That’s right!

I said $5 dollar makeover!!

I chuckle as I write this post :)

I still had rooms that had yet to be un-packed from our move and a million other things I should be getting done.

I jump around from project to project and this bathroom makeover is a perfect example.

A few weeks back I woke up and decided the guest bathroom needed some cheering up.

And so it begins :)

Out to the workshop I went and grabbed the can of $5 dollar oops paint that we snagged at Lowes (for the walls), a small can of leftover paint from a previous project  (for the cabinet and mirror) along with a few supplies and got to work.

When we first moved in I hung a mirror and tossed down a rug and left it at that.

My inspiration for this room was this super cute cow picture I snagged from Janet at whitebarnvintage

Along with this fabulous cabinet from our workshop.

Steve removed it from the wall and ripped it down the middle so you wouldn’t rack your head on it.

And we hung it on the wall.

Next up was the mirror.

I painted it with a chalk paint mixture I came up with and distressed it.

Using my cow picture as inspiration I scoured the house for more items.

And this is what I came up with.

1.)  The Sterling Heifer is from decorsteals

2.)  The Balls Jars w/greenery I had on hand

3.)  The rusty safety deposit box I brought home from the shop

4.)  The wooden chair was hand carved by Steve’s Great Grandfather

5.)  The wreath is also from decorsteals and the ribbon I had on hand

6.) The cabinet we stole from the workshop and modified a bit

7.) The super cute cow picture is from whitebarnvintage

8.)  The vase was a Christmas present last year from Steve (kinda weird but for some reason I really like it!)

9.) And the copper Christmas tree was a Goodwill find a couple years back.

As you can see below, I’m Still working on the base cabinet.

Yep you guessed it!

I found another project!

The gingham knobs I ordered from Hobby Lobby.

I had used them before on “Little Boy Blue”  and have loved them since.

As seen here

We also removed the light fixture and I painted it using the same chalk paint mixture I used on the base cabinet and distressed it as well.

All and all we’re extremely happy with my our $5 dollar bathroom flip!!!

Happy Thursday :)

A Nursery For Baby Henry and a “Letter to My Grandson”

Letter To My Grandson

Author Unknown
To my beautiful grandson...
Our world is changing so fast and there are many things I wish for you...
I'd really like for you to know about hand-me-down clothes and homemade ice cream and leftover meat loaf sandwiches. I really would.
I hope you learn humility by being humiliated, and that you learn honesty by being cheated.
I hope you learn to make your own bed and mow the lawn and wash the car.
And I really hope nobody gives you a brand new car when you are sixteen.
I hope you get a black eye fighting for something you believe in.
I hope you have to share a bedroom with your younger brother or sister.
And it's all right if you have to draw a line down the middle of the room, but when they want to crawl under the covers with you because they're scared, I hope you let them.
When you want to see a movie and your little brother or sister wants to tag along, I hope you'll let them.
I hope you have to walk uphill to school with your friends and that you live in a town where you can do it safely.
On rainy days when you have to catch a ride, I hope you don't ask your driver to drop you two blocks away so you won't be seen riding with someone as uncool as your Mom.
If you want a slingshot, I hope your Dad teaches you how to make one instead of buying one.
I hope you learn to dig in the dirt and read books.
When you learn to use computers, I hope you also learn to add and subtract in your head.
I hope you get teased by your friends when you have your first crush, and when you talk back to your mother that you learn what ivory soap tastes like.
May you skin your knee climbing a mountain, burn your hand on a stove and stick your tongue on a frozen flagpole.
I don't care if you try a beer once, but I hope you don't like it.
I sure hope you make time to sit on a porch with your grandparents and go fishing with your uncle.
These are just some of the things that I wish for you - tough times and disappointment, hard work and happiness. To me, it's the only way to appreciate life.

Mr. Henry Dale Stevens

3 months later…….

Time is going by so fast!!!

This little man has stolen our Red heart‘s

It’s hard to believe that we have been married 31 years , that our Daughter is 30, that our Son is 27 and now we have a 3 month old Grandson!

When did this all happen!

Time flies when you are having fun :)

I promised myself that I would blog more this year.

Even if my photos are grainy cell phone pics.

Today I am sharing pics of Henry’s Nursery.

It all came together perfectly!

I found the perfect dresser and painted it red.

The growth chart I made out of the last piece of our Tennessee barn board we snagged when we first moved here 3 years ago.

I was saving it for something special :)

I got my something special Red heart

The vintage tractor along with the  cobbler’s bench & hammer set belonged to Lee (Henry’s Dad) when he was a child.

I also made a couple of pallet shelves for some vintage books and such.

One of my favorite finds was this totally awesome rocking chair that I found at The Spruced Roost located inside the vintagemarketonchurchstreet in downtown Jackson, TN.

The cabinet Steve re-finished and we plan on turning it into a puppet cabinet.

The vintage nautical poster and vintage globe I snagged from Melissa at Shabby Love vintagemellie.blogspot and the truck from Janet at White Barn Vintage both located in Michigan.

I decided I cannot pick a favorite!

I love it all!!!

I have to say my two favorite pieces we found would be this vintage toy and piano I picked up at The Married Pickers just down the street from our Shop!!

My all time favorite place to pick!!!!

Is this not seriously the cutest thing you have ever seen!!!!

The sailboat mobile I purchased from The Ark Toys ~ Great Toys Are Just The Beginning I saw it in a blog post from Little Green Notebook and fell in love!

The hot air balloon painting is a

Lee Walker Stevens Original :)

Painted by Henry’s Dad Red heart

For the windows we made a couple of DIY roman blinds out of painters drop cloth.

I blogged about that a bit ago

Seen here

Truth be told, there's nothing better than being a grandparent.

Happy Monday :)
