Bench [bench] noun: a long and usually hard seat for two or more people.

It all started with this picture our Daughter sent us of this bench at the Goodwill.

Of course I was all over it!

And told her to snag this baby up and quick!

Once I got it home I found that it was in pretty bad shape!

The back had a large hole that needed repaired.

But nothing a little water putty couldn’t fix.

After repairing the back I started stripping and sanding and found that there were several layers of paint.

After several hours of sanding and the heat gun I still had tons more paint to go!

So I thought I would try putting some milk paint over it and see what happens……

After working on it well into the evening I was not satisfied!

So the next day I painted it with some blue milk paint (which I forgot to take a picture of).

Which looked even worse!

So I decided to painted it white and strip and sand all the paint off of the spindles.

And started to distress it and decided I did not like this look as well.

So once I again I sanded and sanded and sanded some more.

And stained the bare wood that was exposed along with the spindles.

Sprayed a clear coat over the top and called it a day!

The Doctor Is In!

Someone once said that Steve was a plastic surgeon for aged wood furniture and I could not agree more!

You will not believe your eyes when you see this transformation!

We had a customer drop this off last week to have the leg repaired.

They had it repaired once before but it did not hold up well so they brought it to Dr. Steve for repair :)

The large piece of the center support broke away with part of it still attached to the leg.

The table is extremely top heavy, which puts a lot of pressure on the legs.

Patching the leg with glue or putty would not have held the weight.

So he had to remove the damaged section.

His style might be a bit unconventional to some but it works for us!

After he made the cuts on both sides he removed the middle with a drill and  chisel.

Once he had the middle removed he cut a piece to fit out of a scrap piece of mahogany we had on hand.

And glued and clamped it into place.

And worked his magic!

He used our detail sander to create new grooves.

After getting it all back together he did a bit more sanding and sprayed a stain on the base.
