Homemade Soy Candles

Hello! Hello!

Today I thought I would share with you how I make my soy candles for our booth.

IMG_5960

I start with 100% natural soy wax and wicks.

And these cute blue ball jars.

The first thing that you will want to do is glue your wicks to the bottom of your jar with super glue.

I let them sit for a good hour or more to make sure the glue is nice and dry.

IMG_5844

Next I took two wooden skewers and wrapped a rubber band around the end to hold the wick in place when pouring the wax.

After pouring the wax I dropped a few drops of essential oil(s) in the bottom of the jar.

IMG_5846

Next you will need to melt your wax.

I picked this melting pot up at Hobby Lobby and it works great!

IMG_5860

Start by pouring a little wax into pot and after it melts add a bit more (be sure to let all wax melt before adding more) and so on and so forth until you have a full pot.

Remove from heat and let wax rest in pot for approx. 30 min.

IMG_5895

And pour into your prepared ball jars and finish off with a few more drops of your essential oil(s).

IMG_1741 (3)

Let them rest until cool.

I also drop a couple more drops of essential oil(s) to the top of the candle after it cools.

For an added touch I took one of my old flour sacks and cut out a circle and placed it under the lid!

Row, Row, Row Your Boat!

It’s Frrrrriday!

We have family coming in this weekend from Illinois for a visit.

We leave for Chicago on Monday for a few days.

And you could not ask for a better day outside :)

LIFE IS GOOD!!

Today’s post is about this little oar I pulled out of the garbage at our son’s new home left by the previous owners.

“One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”

IMG_2043 (3)

I wanted to hang it on the wall but thought it needed something………..

And the hubs had yet another brilliant idea!

Paint something on it!

Great idea I said!

So I taped it up.

IMG_6771 (2)

Painted it red.

IMG_6779

Added a small white stripe.

And sanded it a bit.

Check it out!

You can still see a bit of the logo!

IMG_6865

I Screwed and eye hook into the top and hung it on the wall.

IMG_6868

I have not done any fall decorating in our hearth room.

IMG_6885

I want to hang on to Summer just a bit longer.

Our Fall Mantle 2013

Good Morning!

It’s another beautiful day today here in Tennessee :)

I finished our fall mantle yesterday and love it!

IMG_6794

The wreath is and oldie but goodie.

We have had this thing for YEARS and it was looking pretty sparse so I took a leaf swag I had and twisted and mixed it in to make it extra leafy and added some burlap ribbon.

(And with some help from Mr. Steve of course!)

I hung it over the mirror.

IMG_6792

If you have been following me on Facebook you know I am currently addicted to these fabric swags lately and can’t make enough of them.

So of course I had to make one for our Fall mantle.

And remember this barn board box we made?

I just removed the hydrangeas and replaced them with some artificial apples.

IMG_6828

I also had this small wood black widow plaque that had a wire attached to it for hanging.

I removed the wire and nailed it right onto the box.

How cute is this?

IMG_6831

IMG_6814

I pulled this guy (rooster) out of my dining room.

IMG_6818

And the fresh hydrangeas in the basket are from my backyard!

We just planted them this year and they are doing amazing!

Yippee!!

IMG_6815

I picked up a bag of small pumpkins at the market and included a few as well.

Mixed in some more fruit and pumpkins.

Both artificial and real.

And scattered a few more pieces around the room as well.

IMG_6804

The only thing I purchased was 3 artificial mini pumpkins @ .97 ea.

IMG_6843

And this cute little owl for only $2.97.

Everything else we have accumulated over the last 30 years!

Happy Thursday :)
